Jerwood/Photoworks Awards 2015

 I'm sure there used to be another photo prize with Jerwood in the title? Anyway this Jerwood prize has announced this years winners and they are, Joanna Piotrowska, Tereza Zelenkova and Matthew Finn who's picture is shown below because his series Mother is to a simple soul like me, the most accessible.

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2015

  Call for Entries

  The Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) Photography Competition 2015 is a juried competition that invites submissions from students, academics and members of the general public. Entrants are asked to submit (a maximum of three) images that depicts the social organisation of ordinary and habitual everyday practices in which consumption takes place and how they relate to  changing infrastructures, policy and power.

 

All shortlisted entrants will have their work mounted and displayed in the offices of the Sustainable Consumption Institute. Both the winner and runners-up will receive a cash prize (1^st prize £100; 2^nd prize £50, 3^rd prize £50 plus 2 x runner ups @ £25 each) and also feature on the SCI website.

 

The competition begins on the 1^st February and closes for entries 1^st April 2015

Fourteen Nineteen.

People sometimes send me in submissions. I don't get as many as I did back in the photo blogging heyday which I think was a couple of weeks in 2009 but I still get some. I got one the other day from a third year student who manged somehow to use an email address I couldn't reply to. They also sent me nothing to look at and when I searched online they had no website.
That is how not to get yourself out there or how to operate in 2012. Photographers Alex F Webb and Lewis Chaplin  are frighteningly pro-active. They are two halves of the online gallery Fourteen Nineteen which they say of "we attempt to provide a sincere, engaging platform for interacting with the next generation of torchbearers for contemporary photography."  They also find time to study (Alex is still a student) they publish indie photo books counting Ryan McGinley amongst their fans and set up exhibitions. No wonder the young pups got no time to brush his hair. 

I'm tired just writing about them.

Magnum Young Gun Wins

So let me get this right. He's 27 a Magnum nominee and has now been awarded $30,000 by the Eugene Smith Foundation. I'm happy for him honestly I am.
