ALTERNATIVE CAMERA CLUB presents EJ MAJOR

EJ Major is this months speaker at The Alternative Camera Club down at The Whitworth Art Gallery. She fits into the remit of the ACC which  looks at what's interesting and fresh in approach within the often conservative and boring world of photography. "Now where did I put my 50% grey card ? I saw it last in my Billingham bag..."

THIS COMING SATURDAY.............

MANCHESTER PHOTOGRAPHY & THE WHITWORTH
Present
Image copyright Mishka Hemmer "from the series in a foreign field"
Mishka Henner has worked on documentary projects with his partner Liz Lock across the North West since 2005. Using portraiture and landscape studies, they produced many stories exploring the post-industrial satellite towns of the north. In the last twelve months, Mishka has interrogated the nature of photography and his role within it in an age when everyone is either talking and writing about or actually taking pictures. The resulting works include Winning Mentality, Collected Portraits and Photography Is (described by Joachim Schmid as "the only book that really says what photography really is, unbiased, straight forward, comprehensive"). In this talk, Mishka will discuss these works in relation to his own documentary work. Mishka is represented by Panos Pictures and is a member of the ABC Artists' Book Cooperative.
Mishka will be talking and answering questions at THE WHITWORTH GALLERY Saturday 16th October 10:30 £3.

As some of you may be aware I am together with Ed Watts helping to develop a series of talks and workshops at The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester. THE ALTERNATIVE CAMERA CLUB
as it's called will take place every third Saturday of the month at the gallery between 10:30 am & 1pm. These mornings will see different guest photographers talking about their work, answering questions and hanging about to take a look at and discuss your work should you bring it along. So a talk and an informal portfolio session all for £3 ! Now come on......

First two speakers lined up are DAVID DUNNICO talking about his REALITY TV series. David will be there on Saturday 21st August. Then on September 18th SEBA KURTIS will be talking about his recent work. You can book HERE and remember if you would like to discuss your work bring it along either on disk or as good old prints........
