Sodley-on-Sea Is Showing As Part Of This...........

Sodley-on-Sea has taken on a life of it's own. It's moved on from just being some daft c**t sticking bits of paper together in the back room of a semi in Salford, to being an Arts Council funded project. Funny how things happen.

So not only did it receive funding it's also going to be shown as part of Enlighten Manchester - Festival of Light and Sound Art 2015  at Central Library Manchester this coming December.

If you click on the link it tells you when and how you can book. Although it's free you still need to book. You can also book onto a couple of workshops that I'm doing starting this Saturday (14/11/15) They are not free.

I've Got A Bit Of An Idea And Need Your Help....

I've been thinking of doing this for a while but the events of yesterday's post have spurred me on. It's kind of made me realise, that networks and institutions we are creating here on the web maybe more transitory and ephemeral than we think. Things are not being built here out of stone. Blogs, & bloggers will come and go we are here at this moment in time and the documentarian in me wants to seize the moment. So I propose a bit of fun and will you help?

Over the years I've interacted with many of you in one way or another, some of you I like to think have become my friends. Some of you I have gone on to meet 'face to face' but many of you I have never seen. So I want you to send me a picture of yourself. I thought it would be a bit of fun to get a rogues gallery going on. I thought I would have a bit of an exhibition of you all here at MANCHESTER PHOTOGRAPHY over the Christmas period.

So if we've ever communicated with each other due to this blog then please send me a picture of yourself. Choose your weapons. You can use any camera you like 5x4 to camera phone. I'd like them to be from the waist up (See above piccy) to get some uniformity to the set, black & white or colour is OK. Shall we say 1000 pixels widest side @ 150 dpi? You can send them as jpegs to me at info@manchesterphotography.com

I like to think that we have a little community going on in photo blog land and I'd love a record of the people involved at this moment in time. I might fall on my arse with this but I really hope I don't as I think it will be fun........

Foto Survey Group of Great Britain.

How many photo's do you think you have sent into competitions to hear nothing? How much money have you spent entering them bloody comps? (Hey Stan maybe that's where we went wrong with EXNO we should have charged the buggers!) Anyway up, now is your chance to give them losing shots another chance of the limelight. FSG or Foto Survey Group of Great Britain want your loser's work and early next year they will pick 10 winners from the losers (if you know what I mean) and you could win a mug! Over on their site there seems to be a lot of losing images from The National Portrait Gallery Photography Prize, and 2007 seems to be a popular year, a year I myself entered and lost.

Interesting post over on Magnum blog yesterday. http://blog.magnumphotos.com/ It relates to a competition that they ran last month looking for links between magnum photographs and paintings. You can see their choices here: http://blog.magnumphotos.com/2008/11/surfing_the_archive_competition_entries.html The article then goes on to criticise photographers who compare their work to that of painters in order to give it some sort of authority.

Test Your Colour Vision

When I was doing my foundation year at college, We had a painting tutor who brought in two trestle tables and several bin bags of paint swatches all cut up. Before he let us do any painting we spent a whole week laying them out on the tables in order of hue and also colour saturation.
