Don McCullin @ IWM North

"I became a war junkie, I have a lot to be accountable for really" Say's McCullin at the end of the above film. A photojournalist with over 50 years of experience who as far as I know is not nor ever has been offering classes (see last post). See his show the largest and most comprehensive to date entitled 'Shaped by War' at IWM North from the 6th February.

Too true. Listen how lucky are we to have his biggest ever show in our neck of the woods? It's on for a while so I'm going to save it. I've loved his work since I was doing my City & Guilds in 95 and read 'UNREASONABLE BEHAVIOUR" He personifies that image of the caring committed photojourno his attitude and skills are the benchmark.....

PS. Have you ever wondered why he never joined Magnum?

I know. I caught In England when it was in Bradford last year and that was amazing. His book's fab as well.
Do you know he's talking on the 15th at the IWM? I've got a ticket.

He was associated with Magnum for a short while wasn't he? but preferred to be independent? or am in getting mixed up..?
I can well understand why someone wouldn't want to get involved with them or any other big agency. A photographer I met described Magnum as being like a 'pool of sharks' who all want to kill you

yeah by coincidence i just found the quote

"I was in Magnum for a year but didn't like it - I didn't like being part of the gang. I'm a single-minded person and whenever you're around the Magnum people and the Magnum meetings they all have their Leicas over their shoulder as if it's something they can't be seen without."

heard it in his podcast on this page http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/podcasts/

Ciara, cheers for that. The man is a legend, being invited to Magnum and not wanting it........
