Although harder to find than a BBC Salford employed Salfordian, it is worth hunting down PHOTOWORKS. The latest issue is out now.

Malcolm Craig Gilbert and the latest SOURCE.

Image copyright Malcolm Craig Gilbert.

For me the juries still out on Malcolm Craig Gilbert's series
'Post Traumatic Exorcism' Still there's plenty of other great stuff to look at and for those cleverer types amongst you, things to read in the latest edition of SOURCE. It's got a bit of a sinister feel this time, a slight Halloween accent perhaps ?

Portfolio Magazine @ 50

Image copyright Mitra Tabrizian

Just got the latest edition of PORTFOLIO MAGAZINE. It's celebrating it's 50th edition. It's a survey of (in their opinion) the top 50 photographers currently working in the UK. I think on the whole it's a pretty fair assessment. There is the usual suspects, a couple of people who I think are missing and a couple that......well they must be well connected is all I can say.

On the whole worth buying. A good stock take of British photography at the end of the decade. Magma on Oldham street, Manchester had a couple of copies left or you can buy it from the PORTFOLIO site.

The Ride.

Two of my favourite things, photography and cycling in one magazine, Tip top! plus some lovely illustration great articles, lovely smelling ink and paper stock and hardly any adverts and all for £7.... When magazines are folding left right and centre THIS is an absolutely brilliant new(ish) title.
Available at MAGma books on Oldham street if in Manchester.

Archivo.

Johannes Schwartz on YouTube.

As we all know there's often a lot of gibberish talked to "prop up" weak work. Too much talk is not something that could be levelled at this photography initiative ARCHIVO. Publishing the work of two photographers per month with no words and a video on YouTube of the photographer looking at that work with no sound track other than a little bit of ambient. I can't make my mind up as to whether it's clever or too clever.

Salford star

In amongst the "Fap & Piss" that is most of the new magazines to be found in the Manchester (and no doubt other Northern Cities) area, there has for the last 12 months or so been a ray of light, a "teller of truth" The Salford Star........... http://www.salfordstar.com/
