Photographs Found Under Oscar Wilde's Bed Shock!

I know how folk love a salacious headline with their Sunday morning breakfast. It like most headlines is of course complete bollocks. This picture and lots of others taken at the start of photography, comes from one of the most off the wall photo blogs I've found. MY DAGUERREOTYPE BOYFRIEND whose tag line is "Where early photography meets extreme hotness" brilliant and really silly.

4. Aesthetics and Distribution Case (1): Preliminary Notes on Art’s Ability to Radicalize Academia

In this posting, I would like to pursue an earlier tangent, and redirect it. If we start with the idea that a medium is constituted by a dialectic of applied use and technological development, and that it is further defined by the conventionalization of the relationship between the two (a process that occurs over time and is in a state of constant revision) it follows that a medium is never freed from its use, nor is it freed from its position between some agents in a transaction, meaning that it can never stand apart from these conditions.

Did you think that was me getting all clever? Fuck no it's from the highbrow but interesting blog 'STILL SEARCHING' Take a look HERE.

Obsolete Studios

Obsolete Studios is a new blog by photographer Rob Ball. I featured Rob way back in 2008 and it's great to see his new work along with the new blog. It's also great that we are still in touch albeit online. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have made some great contacts and got to see some really interesting work over the years through blogging.

CATHEDRAL OF SHIT.

If you like your Art blogs full of bile and cynicism, and I'm guessing you do try THIS.

Back to school,

The nights are drawing in and the morning's are getting chilly and it's that time of year when Colin Pantall a photography blogger who has longer summer holidays than both MP's and the French put together is back and blogging and blogging good. It must be nearly Autumn.

Lets Get Together.

& I'm not sure if it's because of the recent graduations or whether there is finally a genuine ground swell street up of photographic art activity in this fine city of ours. But there has definitely been a a load of new and exciting looking collectives, blogs, workshops and other wotnots springing up around town in the last couple of months. What we have to do now folks is support and keep them going. Two more to add to the increasingly long list. CHEMICAL TEA ROOM & CAUSE AND EFFECT.

Curated Place.

New(ish) Arts & Culture blog from Manchester based curator and creative producer Andy Brydon. I worked with Andy at URBIS (I think he's still there sitting with the corpse) and a top bloke he is too, not an arty farty heir & grace in sight. It's great to see that the Manchester creative network is spreading online at least as fast as a BP fuck up. HERE.

Nofound.

Image copyright Todd Fisher
Nofound is the blog by French curator Emeric Glayse where I found Elena Chernyak's work (last post). There's loads of weird and wonderful photography over on Nofound but tread a little bit carefully if at work, you may get some funny looks if you know what I mean. Some stuff great, some stuff odd, some stuff trying a bit too hard and plenty from the Dash Snow school.Well worth a visit though.

Why am I shouting?

Conscientious.

Letting you know that CONSCIENTIOUS has been redecorated is probably a complete waste of time as there can't be that many of you who don't already visit it.......

EXPIRATION NOTICE.

It's one year today since me and Stan launched EXPIRATION NOTICE. It sadly only lasted for 3 editions but I am still immensely proud of it. I'm not really sure why it didn't take off. We got plenty of 'hits' but after an initial flurry the submissions dried up. Who knows maybe one day it will arise from the ashes like a wonderful fiery photographic Phoenix.

Proper Photo Blogs & 90s Boy Bands all in One Post!

Image Tom Rice-Smyth

Image amgphoto
By Proper photo blogs I mean blogs that concentrate on photo's as posts, little or no words and not some twat like me prattling on.
First up a very welcome return after a bit of a hiatus, Mr Tom Rice-Smyth and his revamped and fully redecorated "LIVING HERE" Day to day wondering about London Town.

And second up 'STREET LEVEL' by Aonghais Macinnes which takes you around the backstreets and off the beatern track of NYC.

Bloggerty blog blog blog

Salon/Mignon Khargie

Andy from Flak photo sent me a link to THIS. It's not purely about photo blogs but obviously is relevant. Blogging in the scheme of things is still a baby and like all new things people try to judge it's worth by things that are already established, stuff that they know, that they understand. So with the web they compare it to TV, blogging to print journalism. They did it with photography, comparing it to painting. It always takes a while before people accept it for what it is, a new thing in it's own right. A new phurnominum, phononimum, phoenomimin, pheee
